Positioning

Architecture that reaches all the way into the code

I combine Dynamics 365 architecture with Dataverse, Azure Integration Services, ALM and pro-code. That lets me not only design technical decisions but follow them through into the implementation and take responsibility for them there.

What I take on

Architecture ownership across the full range from low-code to pro-code, leading delivery teams, discovery workshops with the business and IT. And where it is needed, I write the code myself.

Solution Architecture

From the Dynamics 365 target architecture to the concrete implementation: Dataverse, security, integrations and extensions are treated as one coherent platform, not as a sum of individual apps.

Target architecture for Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service and Field Service: the Dataverse data model, the security concept, multi-company setups and the question of which system owns which data. Discovery and analysis workshops included.

  • Security & Role Design
  • Multi-Company

ALM and DevOps

Reproducible deployments instead of manual solution exports. I bring proven ALM structures and pipeline patterns with me instead of building them from scratch in every project.

Feature branch workflow, unmanaged solutions per work item, automated managed solution builds and transport along the environment chain, all on Azure DevOps.

Integration and Azure

Connecting Dynamics 365 cleanly with ERP, Azure, external APIs and other enterprise systems, without unnecessary coupling and with clearly defined systems of record.

Dual Write between CE and Finance & Operations, connecting HR and third-party systems via Service Bus and Logic Apps, monitoring with Application Insights. Built idempotent, so that retries do not create duplicates.

  • Dual Write
  • Logic Apps
  • Azure Functions
  • Service Bus
  • Event Grid
  • Application Insights

Pro-code on the Power Platform

C#, plugins, JavaScript/TypeScript, React and PCF where low-code reaches its limits, built so that it stays within the platform's lifecycle.

Plugins and custom workflow activities in C#, PCF controls in TypeScript and React, Code Apps for everything a form cannot cover. Securely connected through Managed Identity and Custom APIs.

  • Code Apps (React)
  • Custom Connectors

System analysis and reviews

A review of an environment that has grown over the years, for when nobody can say for sure anymore why something is slow, who can actually see what, and where the capacity goes. I measure plugin and flow run times, check what security roles really grant, down to integration accounts, take the solution structure and environment chain apart, and set storage consumption, API limits and license allocation side by side. You get prioritized findings with severity and a recommendation. I then go through them with IT and the business, so the order of the measures has backing within your organization.

  • Performance analysis
  • Application Insights
  • Security Role Review
  • Solution & environment audit
  • Capacity & licensing
  • Prioritized findings

Audit-proof archiving and deletion for Dataverse

Situation

Retention obligations under GoBD and deletion deadlines under GDPR overlap on the same records. Native Dataverse long-term retention was not an option: forced cascades onto child tables, no field exclusions, no review window before deletion.

Solution

A custom, configurable rule engine for retention, archiving and deletion directly on Dataverse. Every record is archived before its status changes, and the rules live in configuration rather than in code.

Outcome

Archive and deletion dates are set once and cannot be changed afterwards. Auditors can retrieve any individual record by reference. The business side controls the rules through configuration, without touching code.

Technical implementation

Nine configuration tables: retention classes, guard conditions that can be checked one by one, a matrix for polymorphic activity references, field exclusions. Three scheduled jobs (evaluation, archiving, deletion) in .NET 8 write an archive of each record to immutable blob storage before they change its status. Stack: Dataverse, .NET 8, Data Lake Gen2, Synapse Link, Azure DevOps.

Dynamics 365 in phases: from Sales in Germany to rollouts in Switzerland and France

Situation

Sales, customer service and field service were to move onto a shared Dynamics 365 platform, starting in Germany and later in other national subsidiaries. Each phase had to build on the previous one without reworking it.

Solution

One target architecture for all phases from the start: Sales in Germany first, then Customer Service and Field Service, followed by the rollouts to Switzerland and France. Along with that, standardized ALM, so that every phase is delivered reproducibly on the same foundation.

Outcome

New modules and countries were added on the same architecture without reworking existing processes. Releases run through pipelines instead of manual exports.

Technical implementation

Extended SharePoint integration, automatic assignment of sales territories, an offline-capable Canvas App for capturing leads at trade fairs and a field service dashboard built as a Code App. Extensions as C# plugins and PCF controls. ALM on Azure DevOps with feature branches, Power Platform CLI and automated managed solution builds.

Contact Center with WhatsApp and email, including automatic case matching

Situation

A high volume of customer emails about bookings, rebookings and complaints in shared mailboxes. Agents looked up the matching case by hand, and deadlines before departure were not prioritized. WhatsApp was missing as a channel entirely.

Solution

Analysis and design of the contact center solution, setup of ALM on Azure DevOps and leading the implementation of the WhatsApp and email channels. Incoming messages are matched to the case automatically and prioritized by urgency.

Outcome

Most emails reach the right case without anyone searching by hand. Urgent cases land at the top of the queue automatically, and WhatsApp runs through the same routing.

Technical implementation

Dynamics 365 Contact Center with Omnichannel for WhatsApp and email via Azure Communication Services. A rule set and flows match emails to the booking based on booking numbers and content, and prioritize them by SLA depending on how close the travel date is. ALM on Azure DevOps.

Solution Admin Console: Dataverse administration as a Code App

Situation

Tenants that had grown over the years, with dozens of solutions, opaque dependencies and security roles whose actual effect nobody could state with confidence. The admin center answers these questions only with a lot of effort, or not at all.

Solution

A Code App running directly on Dataverse that brings solution and environment administration together in one place and answers the questions the admin center leaves open: dependencies, the real effect of roles, plugin run times.

Outcome

Cleanup and auditing take hours instead of days. Visibility is controlled by permissions, so the tools can stay in the client tenant. The suite is currently being built out into a product for the DACH market. The story on the blog

Technical implementation

Power Platform Code App in React and TypeScript (Vite, Fluent UI v9) on the Dataverse Web API. Around it, a Security Role Analyzer that goes down to integration tables, and a Plugin Trace Explorer. All 21 workspaces are listed on the product page.

Dynamics 365 Health Check

Do you want to know first where your Dynamics platform stands?

In a structured Health Check I analyze solution architecture, customizing, code, automation, performance, and data and capacity, plus security and ALM at overview level. You receive a scorecard with a traffic light per dimension, the ten biggest risks and a prioritized action plan that belongs to you: you implement it in-house, with your partner or with me.

  • 5 daysKickoff, tool-supported analysis with read access, short interviews, results presentation
  • Fixed scopeEight dimensions, each with a guiding question that is answered at the end
  • Fixed deliverablesHealth scorecard, top 10 risks, prioritized action catalog
  • IndependentNo license sales, no ties to an implementation partner
  • Tool-supportedFindings are measured and backed by my own analysis toolset, not estimated
  • Action planIn three stages: quick wins, 90 days, target architecture. Implementation is deliberately not included
Extending the architecture

AI-ready Dynamics Architecture

Copilot and agents pay off where data, processes and architecture are ready for them.

I do not only check where AI can be used in your Dynamics landscape, but whether the Dataverse data model, security, processes and integrations are ready for it at all. What is missing becomes part of the architecture, and AI is added in stages.

  1. 01
Data modelIs the data in Dataverse complete, unambiguous and findable?
  2. 02
SecurityDoes an agent see only what the user is allowed to see?
  3. 03
ProcessesIs the process clear enough that a decision can be automated?
  4. 04
IntegrationsDoes the data come from the systems of record and not from copies?

How I work

Dipl.-Inf. (FH), working with Microsoft CRM since 2007. 15 years as an employed developer, consultant and architect, freelance under the DynamicsPro brand since 2022, embedded in client teams or as a subcontractor for Microsoft partners.

I design the architecture, steer the implementation and am accountable for it. I work closely with the development team and get hands-on myself when needed. I explain architecture decisions to stakeholders and project sponsors as well as to the developers. Four principles that have held up over the years:

System of record first, then the interface

Prices belong in the ERP, personnel data in the HR system, customers in one defined place. Settle that at the start and you save yourself the later argument over which copy is right.

AI with a realistic plan

Copilot and agents pay off where the data and processes are ready for them. I check up front which scenarios hold up, what they cost in day-to-day operation and which prerequisites are missing, and I introduce AI in stages.

Compliance is part of the architecture

GDPR, GoBD (German bookkeeping rules) and co-determination under Section 87 of the German Works Constitution Act are not side issues in the DACH region. I plan their requirements into the architecture from the start, for example deletion periods, logging and permissions, instead of retrofitting them at the end.

Handover is part of the job

Every solution comes with a pipeline, documentation and a team that understands it. I have no interest in staying indispensable.

Tools I bring along

I do not just bring experience. I bring tools.

Born from recurring problems in engagements, developed further outside any single project and in use across projects, or close to it. With me, experience turns into reusable tools and engineering patterns instead of being reinvented in every project.

Solution Admin Console and Code App tooling

The Swiss Army knife for anyone who administers Dataverse: solution and environment management in one place. Around it, a Security Role Analyzer, a Plugin Trace Explorer and a library of reusable PCF controls, including a polymorphic customer lookup as a flyout.

Translation Studio

For Dataverse environments with more than one language. Shows, per solution and language, which labels on tables, columns, choice values, forms and views are missing or were probably never translated, lets the business department fill them in a matrix or via CSV, and brings them back in through the standard Dataverse import. Fully built, the first client deployment is coming up.

Schedule Board Manager

For Field Service and Project Operations with more than one team on the schedule board. Copies boards together with their three configurations, edits every setting in a form instead of in JSON, shows booking tile, resource cell and colors in a live preview, compares boards, transfers settings to several boards and brings a board with all its references into another environment. In use in a customer's test environment.

ALM pipeline toolset

Azure DevOps pipelines for solution transport along the environment chain, automated validation before deployment, generated solution documentation and recurring health checks. Cuts the start of a new project from weeks of pipeline building down to configuration.

AI-assisted engineering workflows

I use modern coding agents and my own Dataverse and Power Platform workflows to deliver architecture, implementation, tests and system analyses faster and more reproducibly: checking concepts against Dataverse limits, implementing plugins, PCF and Code Apps, generating test coverage, up to a full system review of an existing environment with prioritized findings. Naming conventions and coding standards are stored as rule sets of my own and apply the same way in every project.
